In the Chaos

Scare people enough and they'll believe anything. From ghosts, God, Heaven, and Hell. The unknown drives humanity as much if not more than the known. In the absence of good ideas we'll accept any that removes our fear. Not only do we accept it but we lock on it. We lock onto it and stand on it. We perscribe our lives to it we preach it we live it we eat it sleep it and fuck it then we pass it on to our kids who will eat it sleep it etc. When long held beliefs are challenged we go into logical fight or flight mode. Cuss, spit, hate, scream, yell attack, injure, kill. How dare you question the truth, more importantly MY TRUTH. We cling to ideas because we need something to stand on. Take that away and we are floating through chaos with no answers and no footing. There is no universal conclusion so we divide, we segment we abondon each other. With our different answers to the same problems; this is the only universal: we have the same problems. What destroys us is the answer to those problems. We all come to different conclusions.
We line up our answers as if they were walls to an impenetrable fortress. As you would expect we derive a certain amount of comfort and security in our fortress. Someone questioning our beliefs is to learn our fortress is made of styrofoam. The doubt they cast is like so many boulders through a wall. It doesn't matter if the breach is the simplest question, we are under assault. We are feeling on the verge of chaos: the world is not what we thought it to be suddenly, now we have to start over. Or we lie to ourselves, clinging to our answers struggling to keep our heads above water. Grasping for anything to take our minds off the truth. THAT WE DON'T KNOW, THAT THERE ARE NO ANSWERS.

I'll see you in the chaos.
